My
restoration took almost all spare time of my new owner within nearly three years. First,
all my movable parts were detached and carefully stored. This wasn't as easy as one can
expect. Many bolts and nuts were rotten and could only be removed by heating them,
drilling them out or by special tricks (I don't know how, but he knows them all). This
took nearly 3 months and some of my precious part accidentally broke apart. This is
especially sad since some very precious parts of mine were affected. This is me
shortly after beginning of restoration. As one can easily see, all the detachable body
work is already gone and stored in a -, let say, rather moist garage. At the time, there
was no dry space available, especially during winter time! Most of the parts are gone, as
already mentioned, but I'm still driving, cool! Don't you think?
But soon the axles and the engine were removed as well, and
only my body shell left. Oh, by the way, I got a new set of wheels for the time of the
restoration. It was a little bit small, but at least I wasn't stuck in one of the many
garages I had seen so far. So I was moved from time to time to some new work shop and I
remember that one day when I was loaded on some trailer and hauled a two hour drive away
just to get my old and ugly paint coat stripped off. My paint at the time was really no
good. Ouh, I was so happy when those guys blasted the stuff away. It was almost like using
some shower body scrub for you humans, I suppose. |
